The Government of Belize has postponed the planned reopening of the international airport from August 15 to a later date, due to a local spike of COVID-19 cases in country.

A press conference held today on August 05, 2020 announced that due to a spike in the number of COVID-19 cases in three districts, there will be a delay in the reopening of the Philip Goldson International Airport (PGIA).

Prime Minister Rt. Dean Barrow said that although the airport will not reopen, the weekly repatriation flights for Belizean nationals abroad will continue, including the 14-day mandatory quarantine upon arrival.

The opening of the airport will be announced at a later date.

For future plans for flights to Belize. Both Delta Airlines and United Airlines are expected to resume flights to Belize as of September 3rd, 2020. While American Airlines, which was scheduled to arrive in Belize as of August will be postponed until further notice.
