Belize Eases Their Covid Restrictions

In place since April 1, 2020, Belize drops its mask mandate and national curfew as of March 1, 2022. With new regulations by Belize’s Ministry of Health and Wellness in Statutory Instrument No. 36 of 2022, no longer will persons need to wear a facemask outside in an open space, driving alone or with members of the same family, or in a private residence. However, you’ll still need your facemask when gathering indoors or in a closed space during events; for example, in church, weddings, celebrations, funerals, government or statutory body buildings, stores and other businesses, social club events, and public transportation. Such social events can also be hosted—so long as all guests are fully vaccinated; social distancing is still required. There is also no curfew in Belize.

As Belize continues to reopen, this new Directive from the Government announced the discontinuation of the 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. curfew effective March 1, 2022. This comes as public health officials continue to manage the pandemic, with approximately 49.8 percent of the total population receiving at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

“The Minister of Health will provide more details of the process by which we will lift all measures during the month of March as we move towards normalcy on 1st April 2022. We continue to urge Belizeans to get vaccinated and for those who have not yet been boosted, we urge you to do so.”

Other Caribbean destinations besides Belize that have shifted to no curfew this year include Barbados and Guyana. At this time, Belize’s border requirements remain the same.
