ATOMICA RECOVERED from a bumpy start to outclass Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes winner, GOLDEN WATTLE, by seven widening lengths in yesterday’s Thornbird Stakes, as if asking, “Who’s next?”, in the 1000 Guineas prep.

Sent to post as an unbeaten 3-5 favourite, ATOMICA ticked off her third straight win against the best fillies after an impressive exercise gallop last Sunday morning.

A half-sister to Bonnie Blue Flag and Royal Dad Trophy Grade 3 winner, Southern Cruise, ATOMICA, bred Nuclear Wayne-Honkeytonkville, quickly pulled up to PRNCSSHOOTINGSTAR’s bumper after recovering from a rough start.

EASY VICTORY

Tracking PRNCSSHOOTINGSTAR into the lane, ATOMICA, begging for her head from down the backstretch, pulled away for an easy victory in 1:27.0, despite drifting to mid-track with Dane Dawkins.

ATOMICA handed Dawkins a second winner on the 10-race card for Gary Subratie after teaming up to land 1-2 favourite, K.D. ROCKET, at five furlongs straight in the fifth.

Dane Nelson also rode two winners to remain locked with Dawkins atop the jockeys’ standings on 26 apiece. Nelson won the third and eighth, astride STORM and DEN STREET, respectively.

Horse-of-the-Year FURTHER AND BEYOND made light work of Open Allowance company to run out an easy winner of the Saint Cecelia Cup at six and a half furlongs with Robert Halledeen for champion trainer Anthony Nunes.

Racing continues this afternoon with colts and geldings contesting the Prince Consort Stakes at seven furlongs.
