KaleX calls ‘Coffee and Berries’ very personal project | Entertainment

Music producer KaleX says Coffee and Berries, his first EP which was released last year, is very personal to him.

“It is actually reminiscent of recent experiences I’ve been through. It is a dream come true to have the talented artistes included on the tracks to bring musical life to both the painful and joyful entanglements I’ve had,” the artiste and producer said of the six-track project. A unique multi-genre fusion indicative of KaleX’s moniker as a ‘sound architect’, it features collaborations with Runkus, Projexx (who was also featured on Nigerian superstar WizKid’s album) and Zhayna.

The 17-minute body of work begins with a track called Long Overdue with KaleX bemoaning a love lost situation between himself and a former lover, which sets the bitter tone (coffee), while welcoming the possibilities of new love much like the sweetness of berries.

The former Wolmerian and graduate from the School of Architecture at the University of Technology, whose given name is Keron Alexander, recorded the EP at the iconic Harry J Recording Studio, where he is also the lead sound engineer and in-studio producer.

“Being able to produce and record my first body of work within the same walls that Bob Marley, the Wailers, Bob Andy, and so many other reggae greats gave me even more inspiration as I chart my own musical journey,” said KaleX.

Love Me, featuring Zhayna, was the first single released from Coffee and Berries. Easy followed after. Love Me’s accompanying visuals are steadily rising in views on YouTube for KaleX, who has produced multiple dancehall and reggae fusion riddims that has seen him collaborate with the likes of Popcaan, Vybz Kartel, Sizzla, Quada, Runkus, D’Angel and Artikal, among others.
